Slow Roasted Miso Onions

    What you’ll need:

    • 6-8 small brown onions
    • 1 stick unsalted butter (melted)
    • 1/3 Cup miso paste (I used white miso, but use whatever you like)
    • 3 Cups warm water
    • 9×13 inch baking dish

These rich and creamy miso onions are sure to be a show stopper for your next gathering! Being a low maintenance recipe these things are practically fool proof that even a beginner cook can recreate and is sure to impress anyone you make them for.

      Steps:

      • 1. Preheat oven to 500*F/240*C
      • 2. Cut your onions in halves (lengthwise), discarding ends and skin. Be sure not to cut too much of the root side end off as we want the onions to hold together. Place onion halves cut side down in your baking dish and set aside.
      • 3. In a mixing bowl whisk together melted butter, warm water and miso paste until all combined.
      • 4. Carefully pour your miso mixture into the baking dish with your onions and tightly cover with aluminum foil.
      • 5. Place in oven for 35 min.
      • 6. After 35 min. remove foil and carefully flip the onions so the cut side is facing up. Be careful the onions do not fall apart (if they do it’s not a big deal, it’s mostly for aesthetics). Place back in oven for another 40-50 min uncovered. About every 10-15 min take a spoon and carefully take surrounding sauce and pour on top of onions (this is called basting).
      • 7. Remove from oven after 40-50 min or when onions are soft and have a nice color to them and the remaining sauce is at a gravy consistency.
      • Optional: place onions on serving dish and pour sauce on top to serve and enjoy.
